I bought this book in hopes it would help me attract a tribe of women. It is mainly for your CURRENT tribe.... which I don’t love. As a mom and adult it is hard to make new “Mom friends”. I didn’t get what I was looking for out of the book.

I respect what the author is trying to do! Truly - I am a huge fan of the self help genre and I was really hoping for something new and interesting that would create a breakthrough in my personal life. However...it's just not good. The writing isn't good, the format isn't good. No one is actually going to create these ultra-structured tribes. I feel like the book was marketed completely differently and not what I expected. It's the same rinse-and-repeat very basic step 1 self help advice I could have told you myself. If I could return it, I would.

I have big goals and I can’t do it alone. I struggled to make deep connections with women for the past five years. I never knew what to say, I was afraid of being judged. No need to stress, this book lays it all out for you. It’s meant to be read with your “tribe.” Together you will go through different topics and discussions. The book includes how to genuinely invite people, scripts of what to say and questions to ask. You’ll grow together but also individually as you have a safe space to share thoughts, ideas and challenges. Your tribe is meant to lovingly challenge, encourage and hold you accountable. This isn’t magic, you have to commit and put in the work. It’s fantastic that this book gives you a guideline to take action on. There’s a lot of books out there that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but no call to action and you forget about it a week later. This is everything I have been looking for!

I purchased this book thinking it was going to be similar to any other self-development book in that it gives you the inspirational kick you need along with the practical tools but it was so much more than that. This book was an overall experience. An experience of getting to know the author through the lens of her own perceptions of her struggles with relationships from childhood, an experience of gathering other women to build a tribe that empowers you to live your best life and an experience of getting to know who you are beyond who you thought you were. You are so much more than the roles you play in each relationship. She was able to deliver all of this in a light hearted way. This book made me laugh, wet my eyes and inspired me all at the same time. My group of mastermind ladies each have a copy and it has helped us to connect even deeper than we already do. It is a very fast and easy read because of how connected she helps you to feel with each word. This is a MUST on your bookshelf. The cover even makes a nice decor item, just sayin'. =)

This book is everything I've been searching for. I've cried, laughed, been overwhelmed with grief, happiness and excitement all while learning valuable lessons about how we can't make it on our own. We all need multiple soul connecting relationships for every aspect of our life in order to elevate ourselves to our highest self. Tribe and friendships are so important to the success of each and every one of us. The beauty of everything you learn in this extraordinarily written book is that you don't already have to have friends or a tribe because Lori gives you the tools to create a tribe of soul sisters from scratch. Never have I felt more connected with an author of a book than I do to Lori Harder. She is real, raw, passionate, inspiring, smart and beautiful inside and out. This is a must read over and over again book.

As other reviewers have said with 1-3 stars. This book isn't as described. You will not learn how to create new real connections. You need to already have a tribe. Instead, you're getting a poorly written self improvement book that lacks depth.I wasn't looking for a self improvement book so it felt like a bait and switch. I'd return if I could. There are WAY BETTER self improvement books out there that... The Four Agreements, A New Earth, etc.

Love this book. I was able to create my tribe with 2 other fabulous ladies!! God is doing amazing things in our Tribe. I love the scripts if don’t really know what to say. I enjoy the humor throughout the book. We are half way through the book. I would recommend even if not able to read it with a tribe. I recommend this book often to my friends and acquaintances that are wanting sisterhood.

This book and Lori Harder has been such a HUGE blessing and life changing experience for me and my life. I just finished reading it alone and I'm restarting it now as I form my tribe. I've sent 2 books to friends as well and the tribe is forming! This self awareness, self love journey is a bumpy ride, but being able to have the tools to get through it and the how to build and maintain a tribe is beyond amazing. Great job on this book Lori and I can't thank you enough for all of the amazing podcast episodes you have created, I listen almost daily! You rock girl and I hope to meet you in person some day. 💗

Review

"Every schoolteacher should be supplied one for field trips. Every car should be sold with one in its glove compartment. Tuck one into every motel-room drawer next to the Gideon Bible. Front to back, there's something in this book for everyone--a trip to take, a thought to spark a memory, a term to explain."--Bill Monroe, The Oregonian

Great suggestions for where to go. Color pictures would have made it better.

Amazing resource for my part of the world. I had no idea about some of these places. I love it!

Gave this book to my son and his young family who love to get out and explore on weekends. This gives them lots of options!

Gave this as present to my son and his wife - they have only lived in the area a few years and have a 2 year old. It'll be a great resource to figure out fun things to explore in the area.

It was a birthday present for a friend. She liked it so much she is going to take tours using the guide.

In 2000, the Audubon Society of Portland published a new guide to the natural areas of the Portland region. Edited by Michael C. Houck and M.J. Cody, Wild in the City: A Guide to Portland's Natural Areas provided the reader with descriptions of major natural areas in the region, along with short essays about natural history topics appropriate for the area by a variety of local naturalists. When I moved to Portland in 2010, this was one of the first regional books I obtained - along with The Northwest Nature Guide: Where to Go and What to See Month by Month in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia by James Luther Davis. Knowing that my young son and I would be exploring most of the places listed in the book, I decided to use it as a guide for this blog, checking off each place as we explored it. I never got around to putting the whole list of natural areas on the blog, unfortunately, as some things just get pushed aside and forgotten.I am glad that I had not completed the list, however, because now I have the shiny new edition of Wild in the City (OSU Press) to utilize for that purpose, which - subtitled Exploring the Intertwine: The Portland-Vancouver Region's Network of Parks, Trails, and Natural Areas - adds over 12,000 acres of natural areas (such as Cooper Mountain and Graham Oaks Nature Parks) to the list since 11 years ago.At the core of Wild in the City is The Intertwine, "the network of parks, trails, natural areas, and special places in the Portland-Vancouver region" that is "about providing people with connections to nature, to their communities, and to one another across urban and rural landscapes." This book is all at once for walker and the hiker, for the paddler and the biker, for the beginning or seasoned naturalist, and most especially, as Richard Louv writes in his foreword, for families with children. Not only does Wild in the City describe with great detail the many places one could explore nature in the Portland region (over 90 locations), but it provides many short essays on far-ranging natural history topics, such as salamanders, Great Blue Herons (the city bird), pygmy owls, Peregrine falcons, "urban vermin," coyotes, and salmon, and personal essays about particular spaces and their histories, like Forest Park, Sauvie Island, and the various watersheds. There are essays from the first edition, however, that are not repeated in the new edition, and that will afford both editions space on my shelf.A section of essays at the beginning of the book provides personal windows into the Portland region as a "sense of place." I personally enjoyed Robert Michael Pyle`s essay "No Vacancy," where he looks further into why natural spaces, even "the little places, the corners and crannies and ravines, the urban greenspaces writ small," must be part of our lives. There is no better guide to make those natural spaces - weather a ditch along a trail cutting through your neighborhood or a banana slug-slimed trail at Tryon Creek State Natural Area - part of your regular life then yourself, your family and friends, and a copy of Wild in the City.

A terrific guide to Portland's urban wildness, but a great model for every city -- and it would be great if every city were to publish their own version. In other words, this book isn't just for Portlanders; it's for every urban region that wants to become a restorative city, through nature.

Nice gift for long time residents and newcomers to the city. Full of information and directions for getting around and exploring the city.

SPOILER ALERT: A 3.5.I enjoyed getting to know Kinky's family, however, the narration style was disruptive and the story jerked along in fits and starts. I enjoyed the scenes with Maureen (Kinky) and her sister Fidelma. I'd really like to see Fidelma pop up in a future story or two.How sad that Kinky had such a short time with her husband. Add to that the fact she lives on the opposite end of the country from her family, whom she loves very much, and it just adds to the melancholia of this particular book. I really like Kinky's character and I was disheartened to see how she ended up so far from those she loves best.I also enjoyed the bits of Irish legends and folklore scattered throughout.I guess this book doesn't rate as high for me as the previous entries because of the disruptive narrative style and because I wished Kinky had enjoyed a happier adult life surrounded by her family.

'An Irish Country Girl' is the 4th book in Patrick Taylor's "Irish Country" series. I strongly recommend reading the first three books first. 'An Irish Country Doctor', 'An Irish Country Village', and 'An Irish Country Christmas', in that order. You should really get to know Kinky Kincaid (the doctor's housekeeper) as the woman she is today, before taking this pause in the stories of Dr. O'Reilly and Dr. Laverty's adventures and misadventures as country doctors back in 1960's Ireland. 'An Irish Country Girl' takes a step away from the doctor's, and gives us the charming tale of Kinky's girlhood, growing up in County Cork before moving to upland County Ulster and settling into Ballybuckleboo. A few questions are answered here, especially Kinky's ability to be fey at times. As Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly, Caitlin "Kitty" O'Hallorhan, and young Dr. Barry Laverty make their way out of the house on Christmas day to Ballybuckleboo House for the marquis' Christmas Day Open House, housekeeper Kinky Kincaid welcomes the visiting children with hot black current juice and sweet mince pies ... and the promise of a tale of ghosts and spirits. Therefore, Kinky begins, with a tale from her own youth. She tells of Conner MacTaggart, and how he cuts down a Blackthorn tree, even after being warned by Kinky's mother that the "Doov Shee", or dark fairies, live under Blackthorns. Kinky, known as Maureen back then, knew her older sister Fidelma, was sweet on Conner and planning to marry him. The story isn't a happy one, as Conner angers the Doov Shee and the Queen of the Doov Shee takes her revenge. The children leave satisfied at Kinky's tale, but as Kinky continues to prepare the doctor's Christmas dinner, her thoughts continue to wander back to the time of her girlhood, Fidelma's loss of Conner, and how Kinky met her own young husband Paudeen. It was great to get to know Kinky better, but as I said you'll want to introduce yourself to her in the first books. It's better to know where she is now first, before getting acquainted with her as a girl. There's a lot to the tale, and the book is a fast read just as the previous 'Irish Country' books are. There was a little slowing at the end, drawing out the finale, but that would be the only grouse over the story. Taylor has the ability to absorb you into his world, take you all the way to Ireland and really feel what it was like for Kinky during that timeframe in a sometimes volatile place. Reading about Kinky made me feel young again too! Taylor is a talented and knowledgeable writer, speeding you through the pages with fully fleshed characters that you find yourself caring a great deal about.Included in the back of the book are some of Kinky's recipes and a glossary of the Irish terms used in the book. Now I can't wait for the next book, and get back to Dr's O'Reilly and Laverty with their busy medical practice and budding romances. Thank you, Mr. Taylor, for another great installment in 'Irish Country'.

An Irish Country VillageAn Irish Country Village by Patrick Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 starsThis is an example of winning a Goodreads review copy and deciding to read the series of books from which it comes. I won the 9th book in this wonderful group of books about Fingal O' Reilly: Irish Doctor is the title of that volume. So taken was I by the story of an older widowed GP in the Northern Irish fictional village of Ballybucklebo and the recently graduated new doctor, Barry Laverty that I went to the first volume to start the series. This, An Irish Country Village, is #2 and continues into the 6th month of Barry's tenure as a conditional member of Fingal's practice. If all goes well after a year, Fingal is going to offer Barry a permanent position.Through #1, Barry, not really used to a small country practice and the intimate relationships with the community, has gotten his sea legs and is feeling fairly adequate though inexperienced. Nevertheless by this installment he has overcome his nervousness working with the bluff former sailor and has even adapted some of his elder's methods of interacting with the rural patients that make up most of their clientele. During this tale, however, an elder has died after Barry's diagnosis and treatment and it is possible that the widow is going to file a malpractice suit against him. Even without that threat the loss of the patient has rocked some of the inhabitants' confidence in the young newcomer's abilities. So, in Barry's eyes, he has to go back to square one to gain back their belief and has to depend upon a pathologist's findings to avert the suit.In addition, Barry's sweetheart, Patricia is trying to receive a full boat scholarship to study at Cambridge University for the next three years. If she passes the exam he worries that such a long separation will destroy the young relationship that he has with a woman he's pretty sure is the love of his life. Should he stay in Ballybucklebo if she succeeds or seek a place in England? All the while, we encounter the people of the village, the trials and tribulations both in health and in daily life and we move with Barry and Fingal among them. It is a warm and welcoming village with gossip and antagonisms, love and death, gambling and drinking, marriages and new life. It is a pleasant place to be and like Barry it would be hard for the reader to choose to leave.Looking forward to #3--what is going to happen to Barry and Patricia's relationship and their careers? And who is this Kitty woman who has re-entered Fingal's life? Oh, and what new recipes will Kiki provide at the end of the next story. How are Arthur Guinness, the wellie napping dog, and Lady MacBeth, the diva cat, doing? These books can be read alone with no problem but let me tell you, if you like Irish folk and country tales, once you've read one, you'll want to read them all.

I like the characters and their interaction. The young doctor's new girlfriend of one month and he have declared love and and are separating for three years for her to gdt a degree in Cambridge as the book closes. Two whole books fill the space of six weeks time. Twelve or more books will have to happen for them to get married and live together. It looks doubtful. Meanwhile the old dr (56) is connecting with an old girlfriend and that looks more promising.
