I read this book decades ago when I was a teenager and it changed my life. Recently I thought about giving it as a gift to a 13-year old girl, so I started skimming over it to see if it was appropriate.It is, but it's also a wonderful story for adults. I was engrossed and ended up reading the whole book all over again.What a refreshing, encouraging story! My favorite thing is that Joni doesn't gloss over the hard things. Not only her quadriplegia, but also her struggles with depression and struggles with God. I found myself writing down quotes from the book so I would remember them, and once again, this has encouraged me spiritually. Thank you, Joni!

For sharing your story and faith. I read this book when I was 11 or 12 back in the late 70's after borrowing it from a family friend at church. I have read parts again over the years, but never again in full. I just read it again at age 50 in one evening. There could not have been better timing. I feel blessed. I have degrees in psychology and rehabilitation counseling and have worked for the same disability service organization for just shy of 27 years. After a long hard week where I have almost walked off the job several times due to frustration with changing regs, poor but over regulated funding streams and the inability to support my ever frustrated and burned out staff, I now have a renewed sense of purpose. Am I a rehab counselor because I read Joni at a young age? I think it was an influence! I heard Joni on the radio this week on a Christian broadcast, Haven Today. I travel to various program sites throughout each day as an administrator and I seemed to "coincidentally" be in the car going somewhere at the right time to hear her speak every day. It reminded me I had this book saved in my Kindle library, waiting to be read. Thank- you Joni for Sharing your story!!

This is a great book. Mrs. Tada tells her story and it is a great encouragement to all. At the same time we cannot but feel ashamed at how we deal with the difficulties of life. Even reading about her own struggles in Christianity, we can see how The Almighty God used, uses, and, certainly, will use her to glorify His amazing name. We also find a lot of Theology in this book, not as in a Systematic Theology book, but as in the daily life practice of the Word. I pray to God that this book, and certainly, others by her, will continue to motivate, strengthen, and point people to Jesus Christ. 'PTL' - Praise the Lord!

What a woman! The adversities she has had to overcome would put a lot of people into depression for the rest of their lives. She took what she still had and used it to turn her disability into a ministry that encourages and provides support for so many others with disabilities and their families both physically and spiritually. Praise God that He can use ANYBODY to achieve His work.

I expected more from this author as she has grown into a beautiful woman inside out through the struggle of being a quadriplegic and from being Christian. However, I am guessing that this book was written in her earlier years before she grew in her faith because there are parts in her book that are very graphic for children to read. Maybe in todays society others would disagree with me but I would not even feel comfortable letting my maturing teens read this book.

This autobiography is one that may literally be a lifesaver for readers.It is the story of Joni Eareckson Tada. Paralyzed from the neck down in a diving accident at age 17, Joni has faced suffering that few could imagine. She has endured unbelievable pain and loss. She has not even been able to do the simplest things for herself such as get a glass of water. Yet, in spite of all of that, she has excelled both spiritually and in the impact that she has had on countless others.The author provides some terrific insights into thankfulness, suffering and God's will. One thing that amazes me is her observation about how 'being in a wheelchair became trivial' after she realized how God's perspective is so completely different from ours and she changed her own. Another is the way that she visualized Jesus telling her that He knows how to run her life much better than she does even if it meant being physically helpless.Another interesting story deals with the thought that perhaps a prayer of hers before the accident led to that lifechanging event.The bottom line is that this is a superb book that should be read by all Christians, those dealing with big disabilities, and virtually everyone else who is interested in a life story made powerful by Jesus Christ.

Amazing true life story of which I was pretty familiar, but to actually read the account from Joni's own words. Loved it! Only goes to show what God will do for us if we only trust in him. Unfortunately, all to often it takes great tragedy for us to turn to Him so fully.

A remarkable book and unforgettable story about a woman who would not allow her diving accident to defeat her but become a platform of witness and testimony for Christ Jesus! I commend the book!!!

I probably came into this thinking "Oh awesome, a Lich in space!" Oh how wrong I was. This was an amazing book from beginning to end. Douglas is a well written character, that feels consistent to how one would expect a skeleton to react to the situations it's put in. The passage of time doesn't feel long, but I have to wonder how many days actually passed in the timeline of the story. I never expected to get "The Giver" vibes from a book like this, but Andries Louws managed to do it. My only complaint is the "spam" of levels that happens occasionally. It feels like it could've skipped some of the intermediate levels, but at the same time that may just be because "Douglas doesn't understand that's an option".I highly recommend this as something to read. It's a refreshing change of pace from the standard LitRPG, with a well thought out and reasonably explained magic system. It felt natural from beginning to end and left me wanting more.

Honestly, I was a little torn about this one. It has a certain charm and sense of humor, but it’s not going to work for everyone.This is a slice of life story where the main character (MC) is an undead skeleton is summoned on a sword and sorcery RPG fantasy world and by some weird conflux of events (this part is a little confusing) ends up in this sci-fi universe. He becomes self aware and uses the RPG system to evolve into different skeleton forms, gain skills, a class, and magic. The story focuses mostly on the skeleton MC exploring, and training his magic. He explores a derelict ship, then a space station full of Dead Space inspired monsters. He eventually gets a companion but there's little communication between then and the story is only a little less lonely than when the MC was by himself. There's a little combat but it is not exciting. Either the MC blast away the monsters in an instant or the he gets smacked around, his skeleton body is crushed, and he spends the next few pages putting himself back together. This honestly happens way too much and is likely a running gag, but the reading the details of each reforming process gets a little repetitive.The RPG game mechanics are pretty standard but are seen regularly. Character sheets, XP, levels, mana, stats, skills. The MC is a monster so he gets evolutions once he hits his current max level. It is unfortunately none of the evolutions the MC chooses are particularly striking or different and it's kind of a wasted mechanic. Also, the RPG stuff feels a bit unimportant through much of the story. It is consistently used, and is seen regularly but I got the feeling that if it was removed, the story wouldn't be that different. Sure, there would be a couple scenes that would have to be rewritten, but a majority the story focuses more on the rune magic system not RPG progression, which seems pretty wand wavy most of the time. With XP being given fairly randomly and used to force some evolution. The seemingly random way XP is given is eventually explained really late in the story but it feels arbitrary most of the story.Overall, the the story just makes good for me, but just barely. I like the interesting mix of fantasy and sci-fi. I'm ok with the slice of life story where you just follow the MC around. But early in the story things are a bit tedious with the MC floating around in space for like 16% of the novel reading and reforming his skeletal body. The magical theorizing is good and I thought the magic system is neat. However, other readers may not enjoy the slower pacing and lack of good combat.Score: 7.1 out of 10

Take a coming of age story, mix it with a bit of necromancy, and finally add in technology and this is what you get.Call it a self-aware skeleton with some severe knowledge gaps and you might come close.Enjoy the story of Douglas as he stumbles his way through his new life a d inadvertently wreaks havoc everywhere he goes...and be entertained as he tries to put himself back together over and over again.Despite its length, this book kept me reading until I finished it about 24 hours later. It is a bit of a different take on things and is quite refreshing.

Overall I liked most of the story. It does get too repetitive with the MC rebuilding his bones/body like a dozen times. I really hope that both the primary characters go through more character growth and less repetition in the next book. I liked the game mechanics and magic in the story. The sci fi setting was pretty good too. However I feel like their is a lot of room for improvement in the form of all the side characters. they could be much more interesting and less stupid than they are portrayed to add some spice to their interactions.

Loved the idea of an entity of a swords and fantasy world being transported and impacted a science fiction Universe - can't wait to read the next book in what I hope is a series and the main characters are interestingly flawed in different ways and I mean flawed as in not perfect and thus interesting to see them unfold in the story.

This wasn't anything like I expected, but it *was* exactly what was advertised: a skeleton resurrected by a D&D necromancer accidentally gets portaled into a sci-fi universe set far in the future and has to make this work - despite starting out with a skeleton's INT and WIS score.

My mind of LitRPG story,the characters are living the game, not playing one. At times a bit slow in development, but a fun plot line, interesting secondary characters, and a total bone head of an MC. A true fish out of water story. Tom out

I was looking for something to help my daughter navigate the early teen years. I thought this book would be a good fit, so I ordered it. What a mistake.What this book actually is, is a collection of the stupidest, most inane bit of "advice" ever put forth. Some examples:"Don't use liquid eyeliner. If you want to use liner, use powder." p55."Don't force your hand too far into the hole (of the toilet bowl)." p72."Remember: Customer service means giving the customer good service." p177.Add that to the snippets of garbage from 'real people' -- like this one:"Say what you mean, and mean what you say. Jessica, 18, California."This whole book reads like the author Googled a bunch of keywords for teens and cut and pasted the results into Word and published the pages.Seriously, save your money. The author should be ashamed of herself for putting something like this out there.

I recently purchased this as a birthday gift for my younger pre-teen sister. She's alllll about being a teen with ~attitude~, and I think this book is the perfect way to usher a young girl into her teenage years without being inappropriate or shameful to ones body image. I really enjoy the fact that while the book does mention body size and clothing choice, the bottom line remains, "Who cares what you look like, as long as your comfortable, wear whatever makes you feel good!" It's hard to find material for young girls that doesn't body shame or try to mature said girls too quickly. I read this book when I was 25 (I'm now 34). I wished I had read it when I was 15! I used to be so shy, uncomfortable around everyone who wasn't my family, and could never figure out how some kids in school used to live life and have fun with such ease. Reading it inspired some amazing life changes for me and I am so glad to the author for writing it. I hope she gets to do another edition that would include GirlWise references about social media, etc. I just bought it for two of my nieces (one is graduating high school, the other a freshman). I love this book!

I gave this book to my daughter for her 13th birthday and she loves it. She has been skipping around and reading only those chapters that interest her in her early adolescence. It contains advice and recommendations for grooming, friendships, middle school challenges, puberty issues, and keeping up with school work, as well as more long-term advice like doing your own laundry and job-seeking. The authors guide girls from children to young women with ease. Written in a chatty and contemporary manner, it is neither preachy nor overly grow-up. GirlWise is a book that encourages compassion, maturity, responsibility, self-confidence and independence, without promoting self-indulgence, arrogance, or premature sexuality.

Stereotypic, mainstream topics for TEENAGERS who may be already having sex, such as in high school (about sophomore level), is the book's audience. I purchased this book for my 8th grader, thinking it would have MORE topics about self confidence, social situations, and physical changes from young girl to young woman. Do NOT recommend for girls under age of 16. Recommend for sexually-advanced girls who really need to read about what the heck they are getting into.

This is an amazing coloring book full of classic and new art from the long and rich history of The Flash. The pages are smooth high stock paper. I use colored pencils so the pages don't bleed through and the color comes out vibrant and clear. Highly recommend this to all comic fans, especially those of the Scarlet speedster.

Bought it as a gift and it was perfect for a 10yr old who loves superheroes! The art is very detailed and looks amazing after u color it! The pages are also thick and not so thin as cheaper coloring books.

This book has the best coloring pages. Some are very detailed and more for adults and some have very little detail and are perfect for my daughter!
