Georgia Levenson Keohane is a Roosevelt Institute Fellow, an adjunct professor at the Columbia Business School, and a former McKinsey consultant. She writes regularly for Harvard Business Review, The Nation, Slate, and The American Prospect, while advising a range of poverty-fighting organizations. I'm very interested in the topic but the way that this book is written is terrible. Every chapter is written the same way - a major concept is introduced and the examples follow. It's incredibly tedious to read and very superficial in its analysis (if yoiu could even call it that). I almost never say this, but avoid buying this book and just use Wikipedia.
I am an instructor in a Health Care Management bachelor's program. I am using this as one of the textbooks in our History of Business Innovation class. This is a well-written, well-organized book with a lot of great, relevant, timely information. It will force you to create a new paradigm regarding Corporate Social Responsibility; it takes the concept to a whole new level. It discusses philanthropies, philanthropists, charitable foundations, for profit and not-for profit businesses, and the public sector in an entirely new light. I highly recommend it!
