I am thankful this book was written. As a Cherokee indian I am proud to read the writings of other Indians from other tribes sharing their experiences of long ago with the treacherous white soldiers and government who violated treaty after treaty, taking land and decimating the Buffalo herds with arrogant impunity. I have always known most of the deaths among the 7th Calvary were self-inflicted, including Custer. There was no heroic last stand. There was chaos and panic, with most of the soldiers shooting themselves in the head. The tribes were there rightfully per the current treaty to hunt. The white soldiers arrogantly attacked and got what they deserved. I'm retired military but my first loyalty is to my native American ancestors.

The true story of the Custer battle told by a Cheyenne who participated. And a vivid account of Plains Indian life. According to this, much in our history books is not accurate. If you enjoy American History, this is a must read.

While I found the book tremendously informative (I have some Sioux heritage), I also found myself getting lost in the details somewhat. Maybe too many names, names which Native custom seemed to change at times, or simply because this came across as a sometimes rambling rendering of his tale, with many changes in narrative focus? Hence only four stars. In any case, at times fascinating, then tedious, it detailed the live of Wooden Leg's tribe and its relationship to the different Native tribes that came together, seemingly accidental, in the right place, or wrong place, depending on one's viewpoint, to meet Custer at the Little Big Horn. Wooden Leg doesn't glorify the battle, in fact its story takes up only a small fraction of the book, nor the Native way of life other than the freedom to live their lives without interference as they clung to the old ways.One of the things that may turn some away from this book, however, is his almost casual acceptance of the brutality of life. Death and brutal beatings weren't presented as anything more than the norm. Then, in the blink of an eye, he's talking about helping an enemy who comes to them with, so to speak, a good heart and needs help. He details his own killing of a soldier as he attempted retreat across the river, most likely one who was part of the Reno division at the Little Big Horn in an almost emotionless fashion, just as another fact of life in the battle between Natives and the white man. Since Wooden Leg seems to have gone on to work for the soldiers later for many years, it's interesting to read his take on continued resistance after he'd surrendered and gone to the reservation. This, and the many, many details of Native life revealed make the book well worth a read for anyone with any interest in not just Custer but Native Americans and our frontier expansion, including his view of Wounded Knee near the books end.

The memories of an old man of the Cheyenne tribe. Recorded by the reservation Doctor, who was fluent in the plains sign language, it has the ring of truth. From the exposition of tribal life to the details of the Custer fight, it reads like what it is: the detailed memories of an intelligent survivor of exciting times. Details of the Custer fight track S. L. A. Marshal closer than Ambrose, but that is a positive. The outline and details of tribal governance are believable and enlightening. Truly a valuable book and one of referential value.

I almost stopped reading this book in the beginning, thinking it was influenced by the translator. However, I kept going and eventually began to understand the unique perspective that Wooden Leg had as an uncelebrated figure....just a normal guy telling about everyday things. The time period he talks about is during the end of the free Cheyenne and Sioux era, the Battle of Little Bighorn and the eventual surrender of the Cheyenne tribes. I never realized before how the Cheyenne turned against the Sioux as scouts. That part was very sad.

Finally a story of the famous battle of the Little Big Horn from the Indians that fought there. A must read for any history buff. Now I can say I feel I know the true reason for this battle.Like many Americans we are taught Custer was a hero and the Indians were the bad guys. I never believed that. There had to be another side to the story. Well this is it. I also feel this book should be read at least once by any high school student majoring in American history.We talk about racism in American. Here is a good example of how actual history and pick-n-choose history fail both Native Americans and White Americans. Custer is not the hero we`re taught and the Native Americans were trying to keep their way of life and protect their families. Any American would do the same.

I so enjoyed this life of Wooden Leg, a Northern Cheyenne who made friends with Thomas B. Marquis, the doctor on the reservation where Wooden Leg & his family eventually lived. The ordinary life of the Cheyenne & other tribes is so interesting, a life geared to providing for the tribe in harmony with nature, killing animals for food & clothing, but not over- killing, not wasting precious resources. Enmity between different tribes of Indians existed, killing your enemy was a part of life. Wooden Leg recounts the many atrocities committed by the US army, he does so simply without exaggeration. The buildup to the Battle of the Little Bighorn is told so that I understood properly the way the main battle & side engagements came about. Anyone interested in the longlost way of life of the Plains Indians, in their philosophy & the famous battle will thoroughly enjoy this book, Dr. Marquis listened & sympathetically conveyed Wooden Keg's story & character.

Perfect devotional for my soon to be 13 year old's birthday. Very appropriate and thought provoking reflection questions. This will help her start her day off in a positive way! Hope this helps convince you to get one for your tween girl too.

Minute 1: Reflect on God's Word.Minute 2: Read real-life application and encouragement.Minute 3: Pray...This is a small soft cover book that is typed in small aqua colored print which can make for difficult reading for some. However, the words leave me inspired while bringing peace to my soul. It is beautifully written.I purchased this for my 14 year old granddaughter and she has been reading it daily. She talks to me about the stories, new Scriptures she had learned and the meaning behind them. She loves this book which makes me very proud to have purchased it for her.

I do like this devotional, however I think it's better suited to slightly older teen girls. My daughter wanted to give it to a friend as a 13th birthday gift, but I read through it and felt it would not be appropriate. Many of the devotions are specific to dating and sexual relationships. While there may be 13 year olds who are at that point, mine is not. As a mother, I would not appreciate receiving it without a heads-up on the content. I am not opposed to devotions/discussions/etc. on these topics...just not at barely 13.

It's a nice devotional, however it much smaller/thinner than I expected. Nonetheless it is affordable & my daughter enjoyed it. She's now passed it on to a friend.

I'm a Harvard grad, 99% GRE scorer (337, 168 Q / 169 V / 5.5 AWA), and professional GRE tutor since 2002. Any serious GRE prepper knows that the GRE Official Guide The Official Guide to the GRE General Test, Third Edition and free GRE PowerPrep Software from ETS are the best places to start, but the problem is that the GRE Official Guides, PowerPrep, and Super Power Pack Official GRE Super Power Pack, while the very best sources of realistic GRE practice questions and diagnostic tests, do a pretty lousy job of explaining the GRE in terms that most students can understand.Overall, GRE Prep by Magoosh is an accessible, organized book. It provides lots of basic info on the GRE, many synthetic practice questions and explanations, links to online study plans, and references to other learning resources. However, it doesn't cover every area of the GRE--not by a long shot. The questions and answer explanations are helpful, but less than perfect--and most importantly, do not include real GRE questions. As far as cost, the physical book is perhaps a little overpriced at $20, so I would go with the Kindle version for $9.99.You might know Magoosh from its endless advertisements on NPR, or maybe from its online study programs for standardized tests. I am a fan of the company and its employees for the most part, although they are not as open to outside materials as they try to appear, which is why their study plans, while popular, are glaringly incomplete. (As a private company, of course Magoosh wants to steer you toward its own resources.) They also exude a bit of an amateurish vibe, as evidenced by their goofy videos and inconsistent/mediocre online educational content. Magoosh is a good fit if you are trying to go from 50% to 70% on the GRE, but if you are trying to go from 80% to 99%, then you will need a more serious book than this.Ultimately, though, this book is still far more helpful than any of the other GRE mass-market offerings out there, with the exception of the Manhattan GRE Series Manhattan Prep GRE Set of 8 Strategy Guides (Manhattan Prep GRE Strategy Guides) and the Manhattan 5-Lb Guide 5 lb. Book of GRE Practice Problems (Manhattan Prep GRE Strategy Guides).As a private GRE tutor, GRE-prep author and obvious competitor of Magoosh, I can admit my bias here. Just because I know that I could do a better job (that is, if I weren't busy tutoring private students of my own) doesn't mean that I should be overly critical of their work. I must admit that McGarry and team are doing something right with regard to GRE self-study, and I admire their core principles as stated in the introduction, even if they don't always adhere to those principles. Throughout the book, they maintain a positive vibe and get straight to the point…but just remember that there are plenty of other helpful GRE materials out there that the authors don’t necessarily want you to know about. I have yet to take the GRE, maybe I'll review after I take it.Overall, the questions though do seem in line with what I've read online. It plays it safe assuming the reader has forgot almost everything. It gives you refresher courses and then a test on each, and a "whole GRE" test. The book makes it clear right off the bat that it wants you to use there site as the primary training, while this is to guide you through practice.My complaints are that it USUALLY explains why answers are right or wrong. For some of the questions, it doesn't bother explaining why all the solutions are wrong, only some. For the most part, it does all of them. This can be frustrating obviously when you want to understand why you got something wrong. I'd say 95% of the solutions I've encountered are fully explainedThe next complaint is in the math section, it throws problems that it did not explain to you how to perform them. There are several sections specifically dedicated to this and then they forget to include sections regarding roots. While it was an easy search to get what I needed, they teach you how to multiply, but now how to handle more complicated root situations.Lastly, it does not always clarify the "rules" for the section clearly. Most of them are intuitive, but some of the verbal rules are not exactly clear. While you can usually get it from the example, there are a few sections where its not clear until you look at the test section to understand why you did something wrong ,or that there are two answers that are both correct.

This book has had a lot of great information but the information and the practice questions don't always go together. The content is way too easy for the questions. Also I am missing a huge chunk of pages. It goes from page 214 to 227. Doesn't look like any pages are torn out, they're just missing...

I have been out of college for 18 years and I went to art school originally anyway (so math is not exactly my forte). I bought this book and read most of it in the three days before I took the GRE. While it doesn't cover everything on the exam, it's pretty thorough, and it's written in a way that's very engaging and easy to get through. Their free vocabulary flashcard app is also very helpful. One item of note is that sometimes their sample questions aren't as clear as maybe they could be, but then again, there were some questions on the actual GRE that I felt that way about, too. I also think that if math is not your strong suit (like me), a little bit more explanation of some of the math sections would be helpful.If I had given myself a full month to use this book (as they suggest), did 10 pages a day, took the practice tests, and use the vocab app daily, I would have done even better. But as it was, three days with this book still unquestionably raised my score. Thanks, Magoosh.

Beautifully structured book. Magoosh have created a complete guide to the GRE, using a 'to-the-point' approach, where an overview of each section of the exam is given. Although it is not detailed, it is perfect for giving you the basic tricks and ideas for passing the exam. However, if you are shooting for a high 160's score, I would recommend using this book with the Manhattan Guide books. And plus, I have to mention how the writing in the book is with very friendly language, and makes you feel like a long time buddy who's prepping for the exam!

This book isn't really necessary if you have an account with Magoosh online. The book has the same problems as the website and there are some errors / typos in the book which are annoying. I highly recommend Magoosh online though - I got 161 math / 170 verbal with their help!

I have mixed feelings while writing this review. After finishing the book, I went back to reread the book descriptions to see what I might have missed when choosing this book. I felt a bit betrayed, as the description didn’t exactly fit the story I read.“Stray” is author Tanya Marquardt’s sharing of her teenage history, told from the vantage point of twenty years later and viewed with older and wiser eyes. Yes, the rebellious spirit of a young teenage girl shines through, one that emerges from a broken home and two parents using their children to hurt a former marriage partner. Ms. Marquardt leaves the home of her mother while remaining in the same town and living with friends, eventually winding up in the same city she started at and living with her father.The main part of the story tells of the author’s years away from her parents, detailing endless parties and clubbing. We are privy to her thoughts, running the gamut of what she enjoys about drinking as well as her intimate nervousness concerning young men and sex.I kept waiting for an epiphany, something that happened that caused her to change direction and head toward a life with more promise. After all, Ms. Marquardt has authored a book and, truth be told, she demonstrates a writing skill that flows well and is engaging.I never felt the epiphany came, or at least, it wasn’t revealed in any detail. Ms. Marquardt’s senior year flew by in a matter of a few pages and the path to her eventual future is laid out in a few paragraphs. Details of her partying accompanied by teenage angst thus encompasses the majority of the book. These, according to the author, were “…sourced from my memories, diaries, letters, and recollections.”I am not sure if the author’s intentions were to leave readers with a feeling of dissatisfaction, but that was my take by the end of the book. Though well-written, I found the tone to be more teenage reflections than what the book description referred to as “gritty.” If you are seeking a book about someone trying to escape her earlier life while drinking herself into self-proclaimed blackout states, this might be a book for you. The author’s talented writing kept me reading all the way to the end, which unfortunately didn’t contain the closure I was looking for. Three-and-a-half stars.

Feeling very conflicted about how to review a memoir, you are basically reviewing someone else's life experience. I was uncomfortable reading because her life was uncomfortable. Complete dysfunction inside her home that leads to dysfunctional and destructive behavior.The book details alcoholic benders and blackouts, teenage coming of age while adrift. The whole book is just dark and depressing with no happily ever after ending. Memories of watching 40 year old men hit on teenage girls while plying them with alcohol and drugs is not easy reading. Cigarette smoke wafts from page one through the entire book.Griity is not really a word to describe the book, more along the lines of depressing, pathetic and sad. The scene where her mother limps off to the hospital after dad has destroyed the kitchen (and minorly injures his hand) and Tanya is left to clean up the broken glass and right the refrigerator on her own. It's sad.THE TAKEAWAY:Graphic details of teenage sexual exploration filtered through a boozy cigarette haze.It is rough reading with not so much as a redeeming social quality in sight. If you want to read about the failure of a mother to protect her children and just the overall failure of any adult to step in and help then this is it.

I was so touched by the simple way that Tanya tells her story. So matter of fact. Yet hurt as a young child. Blamed for things she never was responsible for. Sins of others ....piled on her by a mother that was simply a child herself, when left by Tanya 's real father. Alcohol abuse, by a step father, and then bring alienated by another family brought about by a mother who was unable to ditch her own insecurities. She will find a strength from friends. She will get through drug and alcohol consumption. Tanya will ... Against all odds ... survive. Thank you to Tanya for sharing her life's story with me.

This was my pick for the month of August with Amazon First Reads. Stray comes out officially on September 1, 2018. Raw. Powerful. Emotional. Heart wrenching. These are all the feelings I felt reading Stray. In this memoir Tanya Marquardt takes us on her journey when she was a teenager finishing up high school. She decided to run away from home when she was 16 because the police in Canada could not do anything about it. Her childhood left me so sad. Marquardt has overcome a lot in her life. She survived through abuse, a rough relationship with her divorced parents, and poverty only to relive it by writing about it. This book reads a lot like a general non-fiction novel and I had to remind myself that this was in fact a true story. My heart kept breaking with every turn of the page. The ending is anti-climactic but again, it is a memoir. I would have liked more closure at the end of the book, but, that is my opinion. Overall this book was a powerful, insightful read. I really commend Marquardt for staying focused on her education throughout her rough spot in her life. Any more details about this book and it would be giving it all away. I am giving this book 3 stars. This book was well written and kept my interest. It saddened me to think that there are children, innocent children, out there that live this life. The ending just lacked and I would have appreciated to know the outcome of her transition from high school to college. Obviously, she became successful as she wrote a book but the book just ends with her at an interview for college. I felt like I went on this journey with her for a better life and she left me hanging. It was a bit of a letdown after such a tremendous, powerful read.

Joe Truini from Today's Homeowner show produced this great book for those who are thinking about building their own shed. Some pretty good info on the materials and construction methods. No blue prints but lots of information on where to get them.

I am going to build a shed. It will be the death of me, most likely, but I am going to build a shed. Of all the books I have purchased on shed-building, this was hands-down the best of the lot. Speaking of lot, I have cleared an 8' x 12' space in the yard, and I am going to build a shed. My wife thinks I'm insane but I now have this book, an expensive miter saw, an angled ruler type thing, a box of screws and a dream. I am going to build a shed.

I needed a shed of 12 x 16' dimensions. I looked at the many pre-built or build-on-site local offerings but was not impressed by the quality of materials and/or craftsmanship. I had never constructed a building but decided I could do at least as well as the thrown together sheds I looked at. I bought a few sets of plans and read much about shed building but still wasn't completely comfortable since I had trouble putting all of the pieces together in my mind. I decided that this book might fill in the gaps and it definitely did that plus more.A picture is worth a thousand words and this book has many pictures, so I guess it equals thousands of words about shed building. I did not follow any specific plan from the book but used it as a guide to develop my own plan. With the information provided I felt confident that I could not only build the shed but it would be done well.My shed has been completed and it turned out nice looking and sturdy (to toot my horn), and it is way better than the sheds that many of my neighbors had put up. Of course, those sheds went up in less than one day while mine took months doing it solo. But I'm pleased with the outcome and this book was extremely useful to me as a guide.

I build a shed using this book as a basic reference. I was expecting to build one of the plans in the book, but none of them were exactly what I was looking for. Its a good basic intro to shed building and I referenced it throughout the process. I wished it went into more detail on some of the critical steps like building trusses and doors, and installing windows. But overall I would say it was worth the cost as a reference.

This is a great book with a lot of good construction tips. The sheds featured in this book are probably built better than most peoples' homes. The author uses only the best materials and methods. It proved to be a great resource for my little 8' x 10' shed project. If you are turned off by the flimsy tin and home center kit sheds; if you want a shed that has some character and can be used as an extension of your home; then this book is for you.

Contains detailed, step-by-step instructions and lots of photos explaining how to build a good looking, high quality shed/workshop.

Having ordered 3 books on sheds based on the on-line reviews, this book along with Barns, Sheds and Outbuildings: Plan, Design, Build (Ultimate Guide To... [Paperback] The Ultimate Guide to Yard and Garden Sheds: Plan, Design, Build.... this is the only book you will need. The other two, while they show up under, "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought..." pale in comparison to the information contained in this book. In addition, the two I listed above are almost identical in content, same photos, diagrams etc. I have reviewed a couple of other offerings while at Home Depot and Lowes and while they may be good for ideas on style this book is all you need for construction. Enjoy it.

From a novice to a pro, this book gives you all you need to build a quality shed. The writing, along with the photos and drawings provide all that you need to construct a shed.

I am building a new shed. Haven't do so in over 20 years, so I wanted to see what kind of ideas I could find. Very good instructions, and lots of pictures along the way. I plan to incorporate some elements from this book and the "Sheds: The Do-It-Yourself Guide for Backyard Builders" book, making a unique product. For some reason, I like the writing a little better in this one.

It’s a fun journey to take with them but it’s also has its moments of sadness. All these emotions in Intention make for one of Ava Harrison’s best books. I highly recommend Intention. I also look forward to her next book. Ava’s signature writing keeps me wanting more and more!!!

I loved Nathaniel & Madeline and their journey! A journey that was an emotional rollercoaster that pulled on my heart strings. I laughed, cried, and couldn’t stop reading. I highly recommend this whole series! In-ten-tion is my favorite so far!I voluntarily reviewed this book.

Ava Harrison gives good troubled, alpha male. She couples him with a strong heroine and book magic shines. This story carries a familiar trope - commitment phobe alpha needs unlikely female to help him redeem himself. Sparks fly throughout until the two's feeling are finally realized. I loved the heroine in this book had her own very serious troubles that are so relatable to so many women, it shows a human quality and interesting twist to the familiarity of the trope.The characters here set the scene in a cutthroat atmosphere of fashion. Harrison's dual, first person POV writing pulls into both of those characters wonderfully so you find yourself invested from the very start. They are both well-constructed and even more well developed as individuals. Both with flaws and vulnerabilities that perfectly compliment the plot of the book. The chemistry never wanes but the coupling and the vulnerabilities wax so much it became a little cumbersome the closer I got to the end. Harrison's ability to create such charged banter and raw heat between her characters is perfectly romantic. Their propensity to internally self sabotage anything real adds to their likability.This is a twisty, angsty ride full of romance, fun, and an abundance of charm. Ava Harrison has become an author for whom I'll always read because of her perfectly romantic yet edgy characters and enemies-to-lovers relationships. This is a great weekend read and perfect for those who love the closed-off walls of characters within their romance.

10 BEAUTIFUL STARS!! Phenomenal is all I can say!! This book will be in my TOP 10 books for 2019....I already know!! Nathaniel and Madeline's story is beautifully written with all the feels and their banter is off the charts good. These characters will be engraved in my heart forever. Their story is like reading an adult fairytale (Tink and Peter) are MAGICAL. Ava Harrison's words are perfection, one of those authors you never forget and always 1-Click.

I liked this book and I enjoyed Nathaniel and Madeline. Watching them navigate a fake relationship and try not to develop feelings. They both have baggage and Nathaniel has big shoes to fill and Madeline isn’t sure that she can keep her feelings in check but because of her issues she doesn’t think she can ever be what he needs her to be. My favorite parts were the time they spent touring London.

You can say I’m deep down in that rabbit hole again. Why? Because Ava Harrison graced us with a new book and I’m literally obsessed. Again. She left me high on emotions with absolution last year – best book of the year, by the way – and in·ten·tion is a closed second when it comes to my favorite Harrison novels. I don’t even know what would I do if I couldn’t read her books. I think I’d be wandering around, looking for the missing piece of my soul.As for in·ten·tion... This story is all kind of amazing. It’s like a magnet that always brings you back to the pages. It demands your attention, but believe me, it won’t be a problem as you wouldn’t want to resist it. This book is absolutely unputdownable!I’ve fallen deeply in love with these characters. The banters between them are fire! I loved the way they changed each other, made each other better and whole. They have stolen my heart in no time.Nathaniel is something else. But this playboy will make you believe in fairytales again, because under the surface, he really is the Prince Charming every lady needs.
Madeline is a fierce warrior. Her strength amazed me like nothing else before.Ava Harrison brought her A-game again. Another must-read for this year!
