Another thing to mention is it takes a few chapters to get to the meaty stuff, but it has a point in doing so. Just stay with it and keep reading—you’ll be so glad you did.Bonus: One thing I didn’t even realize was that you can sign up for support after reading The Experiment. That was a fun bonus that I think more books should do.After reading the book, I have new, specific goals for myself. This book taught me to try new things and—you guessed it—experiment. "It's never about where we are at now, it's about the ferocity with which we focus out attention on improving those areas. It's the courage that we show when experimenting with new ways of living life, because doing so leaves us vulnerable." This book is FULL of so many great points. I felt like I was working with the "coach" through my own issues, soaking in his advice and digging deep into the experiments I can put in place. Not only does it boost confidence to realize the small steps are so do-able, but it's a great reminder of the feelings that come with being human, and the ferocity it takes to make a change. Stress is manageable. Life should be lived by design. So change the things you can control- YOU, and the rest of it will take care of itself. I appreciated the repetitive reminders that stress comes from trying to change the things we'll never be able to. All we can change are our habits, and the way we talk to ourselves. I'd recommend this book for anyone stuck in their ways. If we view "commitments" as "experiments", it's no longer a huge mountain. It's just a temporary decision which could have a positive impact for good!

For those of us within the motivational industry or for those of us who read self-help or motivational books regularly, it can often be difficult to find something new that is added to the conversation. Thankfully, R. Michael Anderson avoids this problem with The Experiment. Without giving away too much of the main idea, I'll simply say that this short book is worth the time. There's really only one main idea, but it's practical, uncomplicated, and it works. And it works because even if it doesn't, you can keep trying until it does. That's all I'll say. Read the book.In regard to the writing style, it also works. Couching the main idea in a fictional but realistic setting keeps the reader interested and wondering what will happen next to Dennis, the beleaguered CEO of a successful but struggling business.Mr. Anderson's work is original and interesting and a good investment of time. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to make changes in their lives.

AMAZING read!! I have been struggling through so much emotional and physical stress in my life and have purchased several books on self help and how to manage stress. Like SO many others, I am juggling work, raising children, caring for sick and aging family members while trying to keep my head on straight and not end up in the hospital myself. I have ZERO time to sit and read these days, but this book literally took me less than 2 hours to get through and I am blown away!!! Thank you R. Michael Anderson for teaching me in the most simple terms how to make the changes I so desperately need. I HIGHLY recommend this book.

I have a hard time getting through most self-help books but I found this one fascinating. Perhaps because the steps toward improvement are written as a series of experiments, I found it easier to read. The author shows how a coach, by gradually introducing each experiment to an over-worked businessman, helps him get his life under control and improve both his professional and personal relationships. It is so clearly explained that anyone could benefit from its message.I recommend it highly.

The breezy, entertaining style of The Experiment belies its rather profound potential: to help us change our lives through the application of the principles that play out in the main character's life in the book. The book shows how change doesn’t have to be a tortured struggle; it can come about by simply altering the way we perceive and respond to events. I have bought other books Off The Beaten Path series. This book is light reading. There are many interesting places listed in the book. They are not high traffic and over priced places. I like the places because they are more a personal level. You get the kind of one on one attention. I am going to continue adding the other series either to my kindle or hard copy collection.

This book was very reasonably priced and very useful during our trip to Maine. it arrived in a reasonable amount of time.

If you've ever traveled Interstate 95 trying to enter Maine on any given summer holiday weekend, you've probably wished you'd stayed home except for the fact that the lure of Maine's vacationland can be overwhelmingly pleasant. It seems like the entire east coast verges along this highway and ends up in a bottleneck at those darned toll booths. From the rugged rocky coast to the remote Allagash region, the beauty and fun is unparalleled.The canoes and kayaks atop the cars, the bicycles on the back and the hundreds of recreational vehicles heavily hint toward their occupant's destinations, while others most likely have been poring over guidebooks to find something a tad different to experience on their holiday. This guidebook has been revised many times in an attempt to help people find those "unique places" not often found on a map or easily accessible website.I pored over this guidebook and thoroughly enjoyed my "trip." There are many unique places listed, but if you are thinking of extremely remote areas, this book would not be what you are looking for as I would say that most of the places are fairly accessible. Lodging, top area annual events, historical vignettes, and many other tidbits of information are included. This book was given to me as a gift when I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at 39 years old. I cannot express how wonderful and comforting this book has been for me. The focus is on living in the present and being comfortable with who you are and where you are right now, while practicing Buddhist principles to achieve the ultimate goal of enlightenment, are practical to everyone in the world. I was raised catholic and am currently agnostic, I would not say this book comes across as religious in any way, and I think it can be enjoyed by anyone who might follow other religious beliefs. Ultimately, being kind to everyone, including yourself, if a message we could all learn to practice daily.

This is about the 5th copy of this book I have purchased because I am unwilling to live without my copy. I consistently reference this when anything I am unwilling to deal with comes up, when my kids need support, anytime I want some supportive words from Ani Pema. A great reference to open and find just what you need. I've read it cover to cover several times over difficult periods of my life. It helps me be with what is so and have compassion for myself and others. Wonderful book.

I give away Pema Chodron books like banks give away calendars. She gets right at the Eastern teachings from a Western perspective, and points out pitfalls along the way. I have lots of a-ha moments when I read her work. The Places that Scare You is a great book as well. Namaste.

My mother was critically ill, my husband unemployed, and I was sick from stress. I am not a very religious person in the conventional sense but this book is not conventional religion. I read it while I sat with my mother in hospice and I ordered it for my father to read after her death. Not much can help at times like these but learning to deal with life how it is rather than asking some higher power to save you resonates much better with me and that is what this book is about. It helps you to be compassionate towards others and yourself. I will reread it as I continue to work through my grief and I know it would be a help to anyone even if they are not going through something as life-changing as I am.

I love Pema and use her every day in my psychotherapy practice. Almost all of my clients love her books and recordings and benefit from her ideas on mindfulness, loving kindness, self-compassion and letting go. The first book I bought and use regularly is When Things Fall Apart. It is classic. This book is a wonderful companion for those who read When Things… The chapters are mostly 1 page long, presenting an encapsulated version of Chodron's ideas. I can go through the table of contents and pick a one page chapter to set me back on my feet.

Many of the releases have not made it to DVD and tracking down info is tough. this guide makes is super easy. included are great ratings that break down what you're going to get (violence nudity profanity etc), who released it, cover art, who made it, a brief review. It also has a great history of anime and anime culture. good stuff and a great buy

This is not a mere historical look at the heresies and the defense of orthodox Christianity. Bishop Allison shows how Christians can slip into heretical thinking and teaching today, as many have done.Allison examines the early heresies of Docetism and Adoptionism and then elaborates on the many later heresies that fall under these larger headings. He thoroughly explains the intricacies and nuances of the heresies. For each heresy, he explains the orthodox Christian Fathers' responses and the estabishment of councils and creeds to combat the heresies.Included in his discussion are Docetism, Ebionism, Socinianism, Adoptionism, Marcionism, Arianism, Montanism, Gnosticism, Manicheaism, Monarchianism (Sabellianism), Appollinarianism, Nestorianism, Pelagianism and Eutychianism. He examines the historicity of these and their present danger.Allison does not go into great detail of the prevelance of the heresies among Christians and religions today. A much longer book would be required for that type of discussion or for a more in depth look at the early writings among the church Fathers regarding the heresies. He does however provide enough discussion on each of the above heresies for readers to gain an adequate understanding of each.

As the Anglican Way in North America falls prey to the temptations of modernism, relativism and secularism, here is the key to unlock our heritage and open the door to orthodoxy.This book is a review of the heresies that arose during the first five centuries of the Christian Church. Of equal importance is the fact that these heresies continue to resurface today. The author provides a well crafted survay of the composition and fate of these various deviations from orthodox thought, and shows how and why the Church Fathers developed the doctrines and dogmas which form the foundation of what Christians believe today.Some reviewers have compared the author to a C. S. Lewis; I agree. Bishop Allison has addressed our need in a user friendly format that helps one understand ancient, but important truths; truths that we need to know today and tomorrow. As the author points out, heresy has consequences. Heretical teachings and beliefs can do harm to the mind and the soul. He shows why it is still important to understand the history and creeds of the Church, and carry them with us in our quest through life for the life to come.Anyone who is interested in religion, Christianity or our heritage will appreciate and enjoy this work.God bless.

In this short book, Bishop Allison gives the meaningful clarity that today's Christians need to discern whether or not certain popular trends in our churches are congruent or incongruent with the historic gospel of Jesus Christ. So many of us take for granted the traditions from which we come. Yet, even our "good" churches have toyed with these "incorrect beliefs" and we too often embrace them because we have not deliberated on our theology. We live in our embeded theology (that which we have been taught) and do not see the ultimate consequences of wrong belief.The reality of the Incarnation and its significant in a world that knows much suffering impacted me personally a great deal. One of the many deriviative heresies that result from not living in light of this spiritual truth is the abysmal lack of the theology of suffering by Christians for those who preach a "prosperity gospel". Allison also brings to light many other such important realities.His explanation of how heresy is closely allied with truth, but actually a counterfit of it is very helpful. It is also helpful to see how much of wrong belief stems from a few simple premises that when accepted lead us into many practices and traditions that ignore what Jesus taught and what God had long revealed through his scriptures.I commend this scholarly work to all who wish to sharpen their discernemnt of their own Christian camp to make certain that they have not bought into practices that quickly at their heart take us away from a relationship with they one true God. This is not a book that you will read only one time and put in your library. You will come back again and again to keep learning. I love this book. I have learned tons of do's and don'ts for a lawn care business within the first ten pages. There are some typos and misspellings throughout since they are from a public forum. Lots of really good knowledge from other people so you don't have to figure it out yourself. Can browse through it from time to time. Don't have to read all the way through at once.

Entire book is excerpts from the Forums. The articles themselves are informative and useful, but the organization of the subject matter is horrible. This makes for a difficult read. Again - useful and valuable information, just very difficult to get through.

This book has helped me realize areas of my business I need to improve upon. But it has also confirm me being on the right track in other areas of my lawn care Business. Thanks Gopher.
